« I Decree | Main | An Entry Inspired by Throwing Up Just a Little Bit »

Highlights from a quick vacation

  • Holding my entire family, Adrienne, Reese, and Anna, in my arms (With some help from the swimming pool, but mostly with my mind-boggling strength).

  • Playing in the outdoor section of the indoor/outdoor swimming pool with Reese. Feeling the crisp air on any skin that wasn’t covered by water. Seeing Reese’s blue eyes and enormous grin as I tossed him up in the air again and again.

  • Quickly eating as much sushi as possible so I could ensure getting my money’s worth from the most amazing brunch ever constructed by humans.

  • Adrienne surprising me by scheduling a fifty minute massage that left me calculating how many massages would fit into my daily budget. No, hourly budget.

  • Eating authentic and amazing venezuelan food—Pabellon Criollo, Arepas, Empanadas de queso, jugo de parchita

  • Sitting in an airplane cockpit with Reese in the Children’s Museum and Reese showing me what all the different levers and buttons were for. Surprisingly, over half of them were dedicated to temperature control of various kinds, “hot, cold, medium hot, medium cold, this one makes your feet warm…” and one that, somewhat ominously, “Makes everything go very very quiet.”

  • Not taking photos or notes of any kind. No pressure to create anything, just enjoying my vacation.

Sounds sweet!

This sounds wonderful and makes me a tad jealous.

Wow wendover never sounded so good. you should work for the chamber of commerce.

WHAT?!! You had a “mini-vacation”? Josh Penrod, for reasons completely selfish, and I speak for my entire family, that just plain sucks!

I know that you are incredibly “busy” and your “back hurts” and it is “difficult to travel with children”, but WHY in the world would you even think about going on a vacation that did not somehow involve visiting us in California? You know—CALIFORNIA—the mecca of all that is fun and wholesome. The land of Ahnald. The birthplace of Mickey Mouse. The very location of the La Brea Tar Pits!!

So, go on, have your “family memories”. Let yourself bask in the glow of being “a great dad and wonderful husband”, see if we care. After all it is all about us—isn’t it?

Signed,

Your much disgruntled friend and brother-in-law

A vacation is what I need right now. I am glad you have earned and exercised your Decree.

Where did the Penrod family go for vacation?

I live in upstate Ny 60 miles south of Buffalo. There is a Place in Erie called Splash Lagoon. It is an Indoor water amusement park. It has waterslides etc. all indoors. All the exits lead you into an inclosed tunnel to a hotel. Take the elevator to your suite.

My Daughters love it. Water park in the winter without ever getting cold

www.splashlagoon.com check it out, it is wild

:-) :-) :-)

California, nothing! Why didn’t you come to Indiana to hang out with us?! We could have gone to Lafayette: the birthplace of Axl Rose; or… um… we could have gone to Kantucky… or somewhere…
