little pig, little pig...

Grant has been obsessed with building materials lately. He constantly asks us if our house is made of brick. We tell him it is wood and he seems a little upset by that. As we drive around town he will point out all of the brick houses. We finally found out what the issue was; if Grant has learned anything from his bedtime stories it is that wood houses blow apart like a pile of sticks when the big bad wolf comes calling. I’m sure he is hoping that we will see the light and move into one of those wolf-safe brick homes and out of our death trap of a wooden one.

His other obsession is pigs (these are related it would seem). He keeps saying things like, “I have an idea! Let’s go to the store and buy a pig!” Before we can answer he follows this with a preemptive, “Now say yes.” The other day he brought 3 rocks home from our walk around the block and promptly planted them next to the kumquat tree. He informed me that these rocks would soon grow into pigs. He had all of the logistics worked out; he would feed them cat food, they would sleep in his room and they would be so much fun that we would love them and let him keep them. I made a deal with him, if the rocks bloom into pigs we’ll pack up and find a brick home and live happily ever after.
