Calling all photogs

Ok, if there is still anyone out there reading this, we need some advice. Michelle and I are in the market for a new digital camera. Ours was stolen (or lost, but if it was lost it was lost in some place we have never been because i swear I have looked everywhere I have ever set foot since I was 9) and we need a decent replacement. I don’t need a pro model (though I want one), but maybe something inbetween the point and shoot and SLR. I am using it to photograph my artwork as well as for daily use. Any suggestions? Does anyone have a camera they love or know of one they would love to buy? Also, it must not look like a toaster, I’m sick of Josh making fun of my last one.

We saved up and just bought the Canon EOS 30D which is a Digital SLR and LOVE IT... however, it's pricey and definitely weighs more than my toaster which is a pain to lug around, but it's taken our pictures to a whole new level.

I still carry around my old Olympus Stylus in my purse for every day stuff and it still holds up with good quality after 4+ years of lugging it around. The new Olympus Stylus 800 has more megapixels and got really good reviews at www.epinions.com so that's what I'd probably lean towards.

Several others got good reviews as well and are nice and small (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01, Kodak EasyShare, Nikon Coolpix) so I recommend going to a Best Buy-like place and try them all out to see what fits nicely in your hand, do you like where the buttons are, how easy is it to use, etc. since that's usually what clinches the deal for me.

Also, don't bother with a seperate camera printer if you have a Costco nearby... you can't beat them on quality or price, and you can upload the pictures you want printed from home to your local store and just pick them up later (usually 1 hr. printing)... very nice!

Good luck! Can't wait to see the results.

Kristy, thank you very much! I will go check out epinions and head down to best buy.

hi guys!

i just bought a cannon powershot 700, which i LOVE. (the 650 is pretty rad too - you can practically watch a movie on that thing, the screen is so big). It is small but takes excellent photos. Quick shots, all sorts of great features, and you can pick one up for around $350 - $450 bucks, depending on the package you get.

My 2 cents.

I would look at Canon Powershots. I have a Nikon Coolpix, which isn't bad, but doesn't focus as well as the Canons I have used.

There seems to be a plethora of decent, small digital cameras right now. But I am seriously wanting a digital SLR. The quality and control you get is so much higher. The Canon digital Rebel has gotten rave reviews. Or you could try the Nikon D50 (http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=8233716/sort_type=price/) . It is a pretty good camera, but not too spendy.
