Anyone in the market for a free mid-century masterpiece? I really can’t believe a house this amazing is about to be demolished. Check out this photo gallery so you can feel worse when it is gone.

— designed by Paul Thiry, the so-called “father of Northwest modernism” — risks being destroyed unless someone steps forward — probably within days — to claim it for its $1 price tag. The current owners, who live next door, have other plans for the site.

“It’s going to be a shame if it doesn’t get saved by somebody,” said Jeff McCord, Seattle representative for house-moving outfit Nickel Bros. of Everett. And therein lies the real cost: relocating the 200-ton, concrete-reinforced behemoth to another Puget Sound site would run about $240,000, he said.- via The Seattle Times

My friends Lance and Tom from Beautiful Angle were nice enough to invite me to make some art with them in Tacoma next week. The official invitation is below, so if you are in the area, please come and bring a chair and some tape! Or just show up and help or hang out.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mbwhqVVWvWw/Sp2kPoAbkLI/AAAAAAAAAfo/h4LWn1kY30g/s320/chairshadow.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376634118494458034" />

Inviting you to be part of a renegade art project. Beautiful Angle is encouraging you to be part of the fun this month.

The poster this month will feature two guest artists William Kupinse, former poet laureate of Tacoma. And up and coming silkscreen artist, Tyler Kalberg.
A chair is a great symbol for Tacoma, practical and inviting.

Okay so here is how it’s gonna work. There are at least three ways in which you can participate. 1. Create an “Art Chair” and leave it out on the street in some conspicuous location. 2. Create your own chair themed guerrilla art. 3. Bring a chair and a roll of blue painters tape to Tollefson Plaza at 4:00pm on September 10th. We will be creating a flash mob, art project with the help of local artist Joe Penrod. The first 50 people to show up, with said supplies, will get the latest Beautiful Angle poster.

TAKE a SEAT.

Lance Kagey
Co-founder, Beautiful Angle

I ran this ad on Craigslist again trying to get someone to take the dirt.

I have a small pile of free antique dirt. I would estimate its age as roughly 160,000 years. It is in fair to good condition. I hate to part with such a beloved part of my collection, but we all have to make sacrifices in this economy. It is enough to fill a good sized vegetable bed (2′ deep x 4′ wide x 8′). Pick up in Olympia and add to your collection.

* Location: olympia
* it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

I received several replies. The first man that responded came and picked it all up. I had emailed the second responder to tell him that I already had someone that agreed to take it but if he flaked then he was next up. This was his response:

Why would I want 160,000 year old dirt. Why would I want any dirt? I thought you did it as a joke to waste people’s time so I was going to waste yours. Now you are acting like you are serious and that is just rude. Don’t insult my intelligence by thinking someone wants your dirt as it is highly offensive. Do you have anything else for free though?

His intelligence seems to have a pretty big chip on its shoulder.

This sight will haunt me for years to come. I took if over my shoulder as I ran.

Anna had never ridden a bike before. Then she did. Just like that. She got on the bike and pretty much rode it. As we walked to see some fire works I heard her yell, “I’m coming for you Joe Joe!” and I turned to see her bearing down on me at an incredible speed. I stepped to the left, she followed. I dodged right, she followed. I turned and ran in a near circle and despite never having attempted to turn before, she cut hard to her right and looped back on me. If Josh hadn’t grabbed her she would have clipped me for sure, all the while grinning and laughing like a maniac.

I am never leaving the house when she decides to learn to drive.
